The original motherland of the Shahsavan tribe was Azerbaijan and the suburbs of Mosul and Baghdad in Iraq. Baghdadi and Mosuli clans believe that they have come from Baghdad and Mosul. During Nader Shah's reign, part of this tribe moved to Saveh and during the Qajar period they shifted to Varamin and the southern part of the Tehran Province.

The Shahsavan tribesmen speak Turkish and the majority of them dwell in Varamin, Savojbolagh, Shahriar, Karaj and Eshtehard. Shahsavan tribe is divided into Mohammadlu, Boordar, Jalalu, Eskandari, Sheikhlu, Jarilu, Sanayi, Nasserkheil, Mosulu, Baghdadi, Dezlu, Qahrlu, Husseinkhanlu and Rezayi families.

During 1987 some 23 families of this tribe took quarter in the Tehran Province as their summer resort.
